Evelyn Laverne Dantzler was born on July 17, 1954, in St. Matthews, South Carolina. She was the first of five children born to the late Marion Ellis and Maggie L. Ellis (nee Dantzler). On Wednesday, March 23, 2023, the Lord called her home.
Evelyn was educated in the New York City public school system, graduating from Hunter College High School after which she attended the University of Pennsylvania. Making her home in Philadelphia, she entered the field of respiratory care where she shared her gifts and talents at Temple university Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She obtained numerous certificates and trained others. Evelyn was deeply dedicated to her work and humbly served her patients and their families. She also made friendships that she has maintained beyond her retirement in 2010.
Evelyn loved music and often spent time listening to R & B hits from the 70’s. She was small in stature, but her smile would light up any room. Her early childhood was spent in South Carolina where she fostered numerous relationships with family and friends who always remained dear to her.
Evelyn loved her family and was passionate about caring for her father, her grandmother, Rosa Lee Dantzler, who lived to the age of 110. She also loved spending time with her mother in New York City. She would often assist and or relieve her of her caregiver responsibilities for weeks at a time.
Evelyn recently dedicated her life to the Lord and attended Beulah Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Williams Henley. She completed her New Members classes and enjoyed the Women’s Adult Sunday School class where she studied the Word of God.
To cherish her memory, Evelyn leaves her mother Maggie L. Ellis, of New York City: twin brothers Donald Ellis (Alberta) of Charlotte, NC, Ronald Ellis (Maria) of Bridgeport Ct.; sisters Sabrina & Michele Ellis of Somerset, NJ; nephews Dachon, Eric (Godson), Jordan and Luke; two nieces Rahanie (Kevin) and Jazmine; great nieces and Nephews, one beloved aunt Fannie Harvey; special cousins Debra, Bea, Angela and Reginald; the Brown and Melton Families; dear friends Orlanda and Debbie; Godsons Karon & Frankie and Goddaughter Diamond along with a host of other cousins, aunts, uncles, neighbors and friends.
