On May 10, 2022, our beloved Gary R. Pointer Sr. was called home to rest. It is sad that a journey of a thousand mile begins with a single step. How do you measure or quantify the trek of a man like Gary R. Pointer Sr.
Gary Robert Pointer Sr. was born on December 19, 1950 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Raised by Henrietta and Wilfred Brown. Gary was educated in the Philadelphia School System.
Gary retired from Drexel University as an Athletic Coach after working 42 years. He loved his job and what he did. He would even go in on his days off to be supportive to his team and finish unfinished work. He was a die hard Drexel Dragon. Sports was all he knew. Basketball and Football are his main sports he watch but he also would tune into women basketball, hockey and baseball. Philadelphia football Eagles is his favorite team whether it was a win or lose he gone tell you they got the next game, right along with the 76er's basketball team same result.
In 1972, Gary married Andrea Cross with four children Staretta, Gary Jr. Dawnesia and Lasheyia. He was a loving and caring family man. Well dedicated to his family and would do anything for them. He would boast about just ending his often hilarious phone calls to everyone he talked to almost daily. Gary also loved and adored his 12 grandchildren, Marquise, Ishanaya, Daeshon, Nashiairah, Kiwanna, Madison, Siar, Tysean, Aaron, Aasiiyah, Kamanie and Aniyaah.
at the end of his journey, this fallen warrior was most of all things to those who knew him best. To know him, is to love him. Gary was loved by everyone from his hometown to his community to his career. He was a blessing to many. Our Beloved gary will be greeted by his parents Henrietta and Wilfred Brown, his daughter Stardetta and great-granddaughter KaiLee.
Gary's legacy will be carried on by his wife Andrea, Children Gary Jr. Dawnesia, Lashireyia and Ashley, his beloved 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, his extended brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews which whom he created special bonds with throughout generations as well as a host of cousins and friends.
Our father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend may have left this earth but not our hearts.
