John W. Sway, Jr. was affectionately known as John Bootie by his family. He was born to the late John Sway, Sr. and Hazel Sway on August 22, 1958 in Philadelphia PA. John was the youngest of 5 Children. He was educated in the Philadelphia School System and graduated from John Bartram High in 1976 where he was part of the swim team.
John attended Greater Mount Olive Church on 19th and Fitzwater Street along with his parents and siblings, Leonard and Tyrone. John had a love for basketball where he often played with the Johnny Dollar's Team. John was also a die-hard Eagles fan.
John worked as a short order cook in his early years. He later went on to work for the city of Philadelphia in 2005 as a Heavy Duty Operator within the Streets Department until his untimely death. John had one son, Damon in the early years of his life. He later met Janet Everett in 1980 and they were married in 1999. From that union, daughter Nyemah was born.
John was a character in his own funny way. Life of the party, a kind, loving man; small in statue but big at heart.
John's father John Sway and Leonard Green preceded him in death. God called John home on Saturday, April 18, 2021.
John leaves to cherish his memories; son Damon; brother Tyrone; daughter Nyemah; stepson Demetrius (Janet-Everett Sway); two sisters-in-law, Christine and Patricia; 12 grandchildren, Dameisha, Sacheen, Anar, Anyra, Aja, Dream, Destiny, Zamir, Nuri, Savona, Keliya, and Azaria; a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends, his road dog Stevie.
