Mr. Joseph B. Smith completed his earthly duties on April 35, 2023, at the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Community Living Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the age of 71.
Joseph Burten Smith was the fifth born of 11 kids to Mabel and Joseph Smith on August 14, 1951, in Camden New Jersey. Joseph also known as “Joe Joe” or “Smitty”.
Joseph attended Audenreid and Graduated from Southern High School, after graduation Joe was drafted into the United States Army, serving his Country from 1971 to 1973 after his time in the Army he attended Cochise College.
Joe began his career in Law enforcement as an Arizona State Trooper, he moved from Arizona to Philadelphia, where he also served as a Philadelphia Police Officer.
As a retiree, Joe loved to collect & Sell antiques at flea markets. Smitty was passionate about fishing, gardening, and especially cooking. He took special joy in all family functions with his kids & grandchildren. Joe was a very strong-minded man that didn’t take no for an answer the is what family & friends loved about him.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mabel, Siblings: Donald, Albert, Aaron and Gwendolyn, Grandson-Shaheed R.Kelty, and Aunt Earleen.
Joseph leaves behind to honor his memory is his loving wife and best friend of 55 Years Maria, Children: Nakita Wynn, Edward Taylor (Mary B), Macdonald Taylor Jr, (Chenoa), Rahshima Harmon, Jermaine (Tacca) Smith, Rannna, and Nelson (Nicole) 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, Siblings: Marcella, Tracy, Kevin, Alfonso, and Karl. And a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and friends.
