Leon Dwight Upchurch-Dunkle was born to the late Elizabeth Vinson (Dunkle) and the late Leon Upchurch on April 5, 1979 in Philadelphia, PA. Leon was affectionately known as "Lee" to loved ones. "Poophead" by his daughter and "Sleep" by friends and neighbors. One of eight children, Lee was the "Smiley Giant".
On April 11, 2003, our Lord and Savior called Lee home at the age of forty-four. Concluding his long-term illness suffered from two trokes during the week of September 13, 2021. Lee raised in various parts of Philadelphia and was educated in the Philadelphia public school system. Anyone who knew him, he called 61st and Rhinehart home. He worked as a supervisor at Auntie Anne's Leon took classes to be a carpenter at the University of Kansas online. lee loved working with his hands and fixing what he could for friends and family. He then worked for over twenty years at Wendy's Restaurant from August 2001 becoming a shift supervisor till early 2021. Leon then began working for Express Freight hand as a warehouse worker.
Leon was loved immensely by his family and his friends. "Sleep" as many called him, loved the Eagles but most importanly he loved his family. It was all smiles, laughter, food and good times when Lee was around. Sundays were routine for his family. Football, food, drinks and being surrounded by his friends and family talking commentary of the games. When Lee was not at work, he loved listening to music, playing his video games, watching Law and Order, divorce Court Bar Resue and many movies with Kimberly and Kimani over a homecooked meal or their family's Chinese Special. Leon and Kimberly bore two children from their union Kimani and Kimora.
Leon was preceded in death by his daughter Kimora, his parents Leon Upchurch and Elizabeth Dunkle, his brothers Leon Upchurch and Donald Chandler, Sr. and his brother-in-law Lothair Adams.
He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Kimani, his partner Kimberly, his sisters Mary Adams, Barbara Scott (Lawrence), Janie Dunkle, Leona Upchurch and Elizabeth Upchurch; his nephew (brother) Dontaye Dunkle, sister in laws Mary Moore, Delores Dockery, Nona Scott and Ella Mae Scott; his best friends Rasheeda and Dave and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and community.
His contagious smile and laugh will forever be remembered and missed. We love you always.
