THE LIFE STORY OF
LEONARD “BUTCH’ DWIGHT
LEONARD MICHAEL DWIGHT, (affectionately known as Butch) was born on February 3rd, 1952, to the union of the late Leonard and Selena Dwight in Philadelphia, PA. Butch departed this life unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 27th, 2024. He was proceeded in death by his brother Frederick “Freddy” Dwight.
Butch gave his life to Christ at an early age serving as an altar boy along with his brother Freddy at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Philadelphia, PA. Butch received his formal education at Bishop Neuman High School and attended Settlement Music School where he learned to play the clarinet and went on to play in the band in high school. Butch went on to work at Girard Bank as a Loan Officer for many years and then continued working at other banking institutions. In 2000, he began bartending at Bob & Barbara’s bar on South Street until the day he died. Butch was a people person and LOVED meeting new people that came into the bar. He loved listening to their stories and problems and became their therapist, shoulder to lean on and friend. He was very creative with his drink making and loved making a drink made of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and a shot of Jim Bean which was named “The Special”. He was accepting and kind to all people, regardless of race and he listened, helped and cared for all! He was well known and loved in his community. He knew who he was, and he owned it! He was a man of character and was real. To know him was to love him. He loved to dance and music of all genres and had a collection of over 1,000 albums. He loved sports and loved his E-A-G-L-E-S! He loved to eat all kinds of foods and Thanksgiving and Christmas were his favorite holidays just because of the food, the chance to spend time with his family and play pinochle! Even in death, Butch has brought together family, friends and all who knew and loved him together. He will be missed by all!
