Pearl Fenner-Carter was born on August 22, 1948 to Mattie and Pearl William Walters in Philadelphia, PA she graduated from West Philadelphia High School and then earned a nursing certificate from Lankenau Hospital in 1973. Pearl worked at Byberry Psychiatric Hospital for many years before transitioning to a new role at the Philadelphia School District where she retired in 2007 after 30 years.
Pearl was an avid reader and took such joy reading books to her children with so much animation. Her two favorite books were, “Little Black Sambo” and “Henny Penny”. Her sisters and cousins were her best friends and she enjoyed family gatherings, especially when there was good music, Pearl loved to dance and would have people laughing for hours. She was also wise beyond her years.
Christmas was her favorite holiday. She loved shopping and buying gifts for everyone, but especially enjoyed decorating her home. She would decorate for every holiday and every season.
In everything that Pearl did, she did it with her true commitment and love for children and grandchildren. There was nothing she would not do for her 4 girls.
She was preceded in death by her very special granddaughter, Kendel Grace Reese, her dear sister Marie Pritchett and her daughter-in-law, Kimberly Carter. Pearl is survived by her husband, Willie M. Carter, her beautiful four daughters, Antoinette “Angie” Walters-Wilcox (Richard), Pamela Walters, Stephanie Reese (Kareem), Shaniel Murden (Wardie), one son-in-law, Vernon Carter (Kim), three beloved sisters Mattie Bolling, Annabelle Watford (Irvin), and Viola Ansley (Jefferey), her best friend and cousin, Margaret Williams, Fourteen grandchildren, Dominique, Anthoine, Brandon, Chelsea, Jasmine, Kennedie, Cameron, Richard Jr., India, Jerrick, Junior, Kharli, Kevin and Kerensa, nine great-grandchildren and a ghost of wonderful nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
