Richard David Mitchell

     Richard David Mitchell was born on September 12, 1953 to the late Richard Mitchell and Ruthie M. Mitchell (nee Golden). He was born the eldest of three sons.

     He attended Harrity Elementary School and graduated from John Bartram High School in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from college with a degree in history. Richard had a host of jobs while growing up: however , the one that he was employed at the longest was his job at the Navy Base as a Program Analyst, which lasted for over forty years. He retired from this job  on May 24, 2016.

     Richard grew up in Calvary AME Church as a child. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age. He met Maria A. Bowman and they fell in love. They were married on October 13,1984. During their blessed union, they had one child, Darlene Cecelia Mitchell.

     Richard was called home to be with the Lord on November 21, 2022. He leaves to cherish his memories: his beloved  mother, Ruthie Mitchell, his only daughter, Darlene Mitchell, both of Philadelphia, PA: his only sister-in-law, Wendy Mitchell; one niece, Kassandra Mitchell; one nephew , Kevin Mitchell; one grand -niece, Selena Mitchell; two grand-nephews, Wayne and Cooper Mitchell, all from Sumter, SC; he leaves a host of cousins, other family members and friends, all of whom loved him dearly.

     He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Mitchell, Sr.; his two younger brothers, Marion K. and Carl E. Mitchell; and his beloved wife, Maria A. Mitchell.
