Roderick's Beginning Our beloved Roderick Harvey departed this life for his heavenly eternal home on January 30th, 2025. Roderick was born from the union of Jeanette and the (late) T.J. Harvey on July, 20th 1960. He was the second of their six children and their first born son.Roderick's Educational BackgroundRoderick was educated in the Philadelphia school district, in which he unfortunately had to leave during his 11th year of high school and sent down south with extended family on our father's side of the family, due to the gang violence and the loss of a very close childhood friend at that time. Roderick regretted all his life that he did not get to graduate high school , which he was looking so forward to doing, but he soldiered on, earning his GED.Roderick's Employment HistoryUpon Roderick's return to his Philadelphia family, he was fortunate to secure employment with the government agency Quartermasters, in which he was awarded a certificate for Outstanding Employee of the Year. He was employed there for 10 years until his eye sight began to fail him, a severe problem he was unfortunately born with.Roderick’s Sports, Leisures and FamilyRoderick was a sports fanatic when it came to any kind of sports. He was definitely a die hard fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers. He was an avid reader of all types of books that caught his attention, especially when it came to black history, when his eyes allowed him to focus without straining. Rod was certainly a history buff and was also deeply into politics. His favorite television stations and genres were the history channel, PBS, cowboy channels, black vintage movies, and blaxploitation movies from the seventies. Roderick was highly intelligent.Roderick was always ready to sit and talk with the younger generation of the family, passing on wisdom that was passed on to him. He instilled in them constantly that education was the key to a successful future in one's life. One thing for sure, Roderick was a very sociable person and the life of any party. He inherited our father T.J.’s strong sense of delightful humor. He was very funny and enjoyed having a good time at family functions. All in all Roderick was a very loving person, especially when it came to our parents. He would often speak of how much he LOVED our mother Mrs. Harvey. They were something together in a happy, funny way.Saying GoodbyeRoderick is going to be very much missed, as another piece of our hearts have been taken away forever, leaving us with just memories; happy, beautiful memories of the 64 years Our Father God allowed him to be with us in this life, but we take solace knowing God has him in his peaceful, loving, heavenly arms.Roderick leaves in loving memory of himhis loving mother Mrs. Jeanette Harvey; his sisters Carolyn Harvey, Jacqueline Jenkins (Arthur Jenkins), Gwendolyn Harvey; his brothers Jeffrey Harvey and Kenneth Lewis; niece Andrea J. Harvey; life long true friends, Gerald and Anthony Austin, Tony Dupree, Donald (Ducky) Nobles, Gilbert (Chuck) Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, a number of cousins of Philadelphia, Pa; loving cousins Francis, Ruthie Mae and Queenie of Florida, along with a number of extended cousins and friends of Vienna, Ga. Roderick was preceded in death by his father T.J. Harvey; brother Frederick J. Harvey; nephews Booker T.J.
