Obituary
Sherrod Willard Brown, Sr. 76, transitioned to his eternal, heavenly home on Saturday, June 12th, 2021. Sherrod was born on February 3, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the 4th child of the late Bernice and Leon Brown. Sherrod attended the Henry C. Lee School and later graduated from West Philadelphia High School. After high school, Sherrod served in the Army Reserves before earning his insurance license in the Insurance Industry and Certification in Sales and Marketing. Sherrod was also a man of faith and he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior as a young adult. His favorite scripture was the Lord’s Prayer.
In 1968, Sherrod was united in marriage to Annie Ruth Richardson. Their union was blessed with two beautiful sons, Sherrod Willard Jr. and Phillip Sean. Regretfully, Sherrod Jr. preceded him in death in 2007. In 1994 he married Rochelle Crawford and was blessed with a wonderful daughter Sherrana Brown.
Sherrod had a remarkably successful young professional career. He was exceptionally gifted in marketing and communications - and he had ambition to match. All of his unique attributes and affectious personality culminated in Sherrod quickly rising to the top of his field in sales and management. He was the leading sales manager at Silos Electronics at the young age of 23 and he distinguished himself as the top national life insurance salesman at Penn Mutual at only 29 years old. Some would argue that Sherrod was more musically gifted than he was a businessman. In 1970, before heading west to Hollywood to pursue his artistic career, he recorded a record entitled, “My World,” by Dave Harris Records, that got spins on local Philadelphia radio stations.
Always striving for higher ground, Sherrod fearlessly exceeded the expectations of the social norms of the day for an African American man. He could walk into any room in the world and effortlessly attract the attention of all in attendance. His magnetic personality and clever wit attracted a large circle of friends and acquaintances of all ages and every walk of life. God truly gave him that special gift.
Sherrod was preceded in death by his wife, Rochelle Brown, 2021, his son Sherrod Jr., 2007, his stepson, Rashie Smith, 2018 and his mother and father Bernice and Leon Brown. Sherrod leaves to cherish his memory: his son Phillip Sean Brown, Daughter In-law, Sunanda Charles Brown, his daughter, Sherrana Brown; his eleven siblings: Larosgust (Bunky), Quetta, Joyce, Octavia, Charles (Bernard), Bernice (Be-Be), Sylvester (Lionel), Alvah, Warren (Darryl), Cheryl (Neicey), Derrick; his Grandchildren, Sherrod W.
