On Sunday, July 23, 2017, Walter Thomas Jones was called to go home with the lord.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania March 10, 1924, to the late Robert and Viola Jones. Walter was the sixth child of thirteen born to his loving parents. he received his formal education in the Philadelphia School District. Along with his siblings, his Christian life began at an early age. His family attended Corinthian Baptist Church, at 6100 N. 21st Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Walter served in the Army, until receiving an honorable discharge. After his discharge, he was employed at the Manheim Laundry; A Bowling alley, and the he landed a job with the city of Philadelphia, Where he worked until his retirement. Walter was fondly known as "Ducksite" or "Duck" to many. He was quiet and complacent man, who went about life, without worries or complaints.
Walter met the late Asalee Rowe; and they became the proud parents of Helen Rowe, who was born on November 23, 1958. As a proud father, he enjoyed spending time with daughter. From a child, through adulthood, his love for his daughter remained never-ending.
Prior to his declining health, Walter resided at 1310 E. Rittenhouse Street With his late Sister (Rose Ellen Serious), and family. When his sister departed, his niece took care of him. One of his favorite things to do was sit on the porch; with his cold glass of water, take a sip, lean back and say "Ahh". He loved watching sports on TV and reading the Daily News. From July of 2016, to July 23, 2017, he lived his remaining years at Centennial Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, 4400 W. Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Sadly Walter behind; his daughter Helen, grandchildren, Rashield, Roshell, great grands, Jameer, Lamar, Thomas, Curtell Aiden. Of his siblings, only his sister Alice Busch remains. And so as his journey begins; and his earthly body no longer remains, he will be remembered in our hearts and minds forever. rest in Peace.
