WILLIAM JENKINS DIED PEACEFULLY SUNDAY, MARCH 3RD, 2019, AFTER A LONG ILLNESS. WILLIAM WAS BORN IN PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA ON APRIL 2ND, 1947, TO THE LATE WILLIAM T JENKINS AND SADIE BARNWELL JENKINS. HE WAS THE 9TH ON 13 CHILDREN.
WILLIAM, FONDLY KNOWN AS BILLY, WAS A LIFELONG RESIDENT AND STAUNCH ADVOCATE OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA. HE WAS BAPTIZED AT NEW LIGHT BEULAH BAPTIST CHURCH AT A YOUNG AGE. WILLIAM WAS EDUCATED IN THE PHILADELPHIA SCHOOL SYSTEM AND WAS A GRADUATE OF CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL'S CLASS NUMBER 224.
HE WAS A VIETNAM VETERAN WHO SERVED HONORABLY IN THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS FROM 1966 TO 1968. FOLLOWING HIS DISCHARGE, HE SERVED IN NUMEROUS POSITIONS INCLUDING WORKING AS A TEACHER'S AID AT ROBERTS VAUX JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN PHILADELPHIA.
WILLIAM IS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS WILLIAM T. JENKINS AND SADIE BARNWELL JENKINS; SIBLINGS, CHARLES RICHARD BARNWELL JENKINS, ARNOLD CURTIS JENKINS, LOIS ANN JENKINS MAXWELL (EDWARD), AND LUTHER BERNARD JENKINS.
TO MOURN HIS LOSS, HE LEAVES HIS SISTER GWENDOLYN JENKINS KING (NORMAN); THREE NIECES, STEPHANIE P. KING, KIMBERLY R. KING-WHITFIELD, AND DANIELLE T. MAXWELL; TWO NEPHEWS DARRYL A. JENKINS (GINA), AND MICHAEL B. JENKINS (ALICE), TWO GRANDNIECES TAURI L. PARRIS AND MADISON M. LAURIE; FIVE GRANDNEPHEWS, DEVANT J. WHITFIELD, AMIN AI WHITFIELD, DAVID M. WHITFIELD, DAVID A. JENKINS, AND CAMERON E. JENKINS; AND A HOST OF RELATIVES AND SPECIAL FRIENDS.
